32nd Annual Duck and Dumpling Run - Coming Soon!

For the past 32 years, the Wilber-Clatonia FBLA chapter has been the sole event coordinator for the Duck and Dumpling Run held during the Czech Days Festival in Wilber, Nebraska. The festival takes place during the first full weekend in August. The event is a 10K race or 2Mile Run or Walk. This year, we had 215 participants, even with the rain not playing in our favor. This is our largest chapter fundraiser that helps pay for student trips, officer training conferences, as well as state and national leadership conferences.

Pink Out

Every October, the Wilber-Clatonia FBLA hosts their annual Pink Out fundraising week. Breast cancer has touched many lives in the Wilber-Clatonia community, and by having an event like this gives the FBLA members a chance to speak out and raise awareness and funds for the disease that has affected many lives and families close to the school, community, and our hearts. Each year, committee chairmen are assigned to create the "Pink Out" event. This year's chairpersons were Michael Pulliam, Josh Kalkwarf, and Preston Lee. Shirts were created by members in honor of our pink out theme “Stronger Together.” By selling 243 shirts, members raised $2,741.50 just in shirt sales alone. During the week at the softball, volleyball, and football game, a bucket was passed around for donations collecting $413.48. A grand total of over $3,154.98 was raised, with all profits being donated to the American Cancer Society to continue the partnership of raising awareness to help educate the community of the cause, support research, and provide funds for patient services.

Money Smart Week

During Money Smart Week in November, members organize activities throughout the week to promote an understanding of financial literacy, and to promote safe spending habits. This past year, announcements were made over the daily bulletin about personal finance tips, and members went to the 5th grade classroom to give a presentation on how to spend and save money at their age. Those that take part in the Personal Finance class in the spring get to also learn about financial literacy through EverFi and the virtual Stock Market on How the Market Works.

March of Dimes

March of Dimes is the national FBLA program that the WC FBLA chapter chooses to support. There have been individuals in our school and community that have faced the hardships of premature births. Our chapter has made it a mission to continue efforts in helping the March of Dimes raise awareness about the issue and why funds are needed to further research at a higher level. Each year in November, we support Prematurity Awareness Day on November 17 where the school wears purple. We hosted a Powder Puff game this year with all player entry fees and free will donations at the gate being donated to the March of Dimes. We raised over $500.

FBLA Week

The second week in February is recognized as national FBLA week. Each year, this committee organizes activities for members to be a part of, as well as raise recognition to the chapter and the benefits FBLA membership has on future careers and a student's well-being. We also serve a member and staff appreciation breakfast during this week. This last year, members "Suited Up" and dressed in their best business professional attire.

Go Green

Going Green is a state ribbon project that the chapter always completes each year. This spring, members will be participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program to rid litter from the road outside of Wilber heading towards Clatonia. Members also prepare posters to display in the school encouraging individuals to "Go Green." Members also research and inform students over the announcements facts about the environment, Earth Day and why it is important to consider going green and recycling. This year, members helped with the school-wide recycling program. Lastly, members of this committee wrote an "environmental promise" on a leaf cut-out and put it outside of Miss Andreasen's room.

Scholarship Committee

Each year, qualified seniors are able to apply for the FBLA chapter scholarship. This committee determines the number of scholarships to hand out and the amount of money budgeted for this. The deadline to apply is March 1.

Feed Nebraska

This is another state project that the chapter supports. Each year, one of the activities that members organize is a Trick or Treat for Cans right before Halloween. Members gather into teams and split up the neighborhoods in Wilber. They go door-to-door asking for non-perishable food donations. Whoever collects the most items is the winning team. Another project FBLA does for this recognition is the Holiday Food Drive that is held in conjunction with the WC Elementary Student Council. So far this year, 1,227 items have been collected for the Blue Valley Community Action Partnership in Saline County.

American Enterprise Day

November 15 is recognized by FBLA as American Enterprise Day. This committee organizes activities and events to promote the free enterprise system throughout the school and community. This year, we conducted a poster and coloring contest educating elementary students of the free enterprise system on the 15th during school.

Member Recognition

This committee works on recognizing members for their efforts and special talents throughout the year. They help organize and assist with the Honor's Night Banquet in April where members are recognized for their achievements throughout the year and at the State Leadership Conference, and it is also the night the newly elected officers are installed for the next school year.
